Board of Reviewers

Updated: Jul 29, 2019

Acted as a member of the Board of Reviewers, providing feedback to students that successfully represented the organization.

Over the course of this summer, George Washington Carver Interns acted as members of the Board of Reviewers to read, grade, and provide constructive feedback for students applying to participate in Youth Institutes.

Board of Reviewers Process

Students, ranging from 8th-12th grade, applying to participate in Youth Institutes held by The World Food Prize and partnering organizations are required to submit a research paper that provides solutions to a problem faced by the country of their choice. These problems include malnutrition, water scarcity, animal agriculture, climate volatility, and many more. The students are then graded based on a variety of different categories such as grammar, punctuation, in-text citations, thoughtfulness of suggested solutions, etc. Once these papers are graded, the Reviewer is to fill out the feedback template (pictured above) with specific suggestions for improvement. It is expected that the suggestions are encouraging and facilitate continued education on issues taking place throughout the world.

Step two of the Board of Reviewers process includes Peer-Reviewing. This step involves reading through feedback provided by other members of the board and ensuring that the language is appropriate, grammar and punctuation are correctly used, and the reviewer successfully represented the organization.
