Practiced inclusivity to ensure that the language used on the website and within the programs is global-centric.
This task entailed working closely with my mentor and going through the Youth Programs tab found in the website to ensure that the language used was appropriate and inclusive.
Specific Tasks
During this project, my mentor and I discussed the implications of Western language and how specific terms the organization used in the past are not common in other countries. Some of these terms include "State Youth Institutes" and "high school." The changes we made to enhance global participation was to rename our programs to "Youth Institutes" and specified the age requirements for student involvement. We then informed the involved staff to move away from the previous terminology.
While these changes may be subtle, the completion of this task helps global students and coordinators realize that we are in-fact an international nonprofit that is prepared for partnerships around the world.
